Sophie Sakka is a research director and a lecturer at the French National Higher Institute for research and training in Inclusive Education (INSEI, France) since 2022. She is the leader of the research group "Robotic mediations", dedicated to using robotic systems in ecologic experiments to improve socialization and access to education for people with special educational needs. Her current scientific specificity concerns the study of complex systems (cybernetics) for the definition of the cognitive links between human beings and social robots. She holds a Ph.D. in robotics from Sorbonne Universities (Paris, France, 2002), specialized in humanoid robotics with a post-doc at AIST (Tsukuba, Japan, 2003-05), specialized in human biomechanics as associate professor (Poitiers, France, 2005-10). She started working between human and humanoid robots as invited researcher at IIT (Genova, Italy, 2006-07) and as associate professor at the higher engineering school Ecole Centrale de Nantes (Nantes, France, 2010-22), where she focused on real-time imitation of human movements by a humanoid robot with balance constraint. She founded in 2014 a non-for-profit organization to study the cognitive impact of using humanoid robots in society, she was granted the French national order of merit for her scientific and social results in 2017.
